Visitor Centre

Saturday 26 March 2011
This was the Wildcare AGM and the Friends of Mount Field agreed to provide a barbeque lunch and a talk and walk which was done by Reg. In addition we ran a short working bee which included taking down the final fence surrounding a revegetation area beside the Tyenna River.  The wire was left at the edge of the site near a car parking area.
Some Blackberry bushes were removed by digging out or applying herbicide in the two sections where the fences were previously removed.

Finally the Holly sites on the hillside opposite the visitor centre were inspected for new plants and several of reasonable size as well as quite small ones were found and removed.  This area had primary work done in 2006 and 2007.   Also a moderate size bush was spotted at the creek edge close to Bill Belcher picnic shelter and a small one on the road at the park entrance near the river.  On the hillside we also found a small patch of Blackberry seedlings all of which were removed.  The Holly uphill was placed above the ground to avoid it rooting, and a pile left on the grass near the picnic shelter and beside the road.
