Lake Belcher Track

Saturday 15 February 2014
It was a bit uncertain what to expect from the weather as showers, and quite heavy at that, were predicted from sometime in the afternoon.  It was quite cloudy on arrival at the visitor centre but a little before reaching Wombat Moor we were above it and in pleasant sunshine.   In fact it was quite warm walking over the open plateau, but the views were good and the scene that opened out at the saddle was of mountains poking above the valley mist.

About 30 minutes walk down the track the arrival at a small scree field marked the start of the work for the day. Following morning tea, work commenced and  the track was soon looking nice and clear again.   In all some 370 metres was completed.

At lunch time a few spots of light rain fell and part of the party set off back with the aim of trimming a few bushes and trees through the woodland southern edge of the plateau.  Three of the group had aggravated  an injury or feeling the effects from the day and were pleased to head back.  In the meantime a few others did a bit more work on the track.    The spots of rain did not last and it was not until evening that rain arrived.
We were all back with enough time to call at the Waterfall Café for a coffee before the drive back to town.
